The newly built, large-scale house and a new swimming pool barn had to be linked to the local vernacular of the New England landscape.
Local granite and blue stone were used in several grades and forms to define the different areas of the garden. Sawn, honed granite was used around the swimming pool, whilst irregular blue stone pavers over 9 foot in length differentiate the dining area with a carved granite water bowl. Retaining and enclosing dry stone walls were constructed by a local craftsman.
Locally grown native trees, shrubs, perennials and grasses were used to ensure the garden's connection to its situation and also to cope with the extreme temperature and weather fluctuations in this part of the USA.
