Provence

Working with and connecting oneself to the landscape is essential to fitting the garden into its location.

Borrowing the surrounding scenery gives the garden presence and adds credibility to the intervention of my own design. My colour palette is limited and lavenders are painted in en masse. There is no room here in this harsh climate for sissy English flowers where Mistral and Sirocco winds blast the garden and dry the earth.

This garden won 1st prize for "best private garden" in the 2009 Torsanlorenzo International design competition.
